How can we help?

The Most Frequently Asked Questions About Facelifting

We recommend that patients avoid direct sun exposure for about 3 weeks. After that, the face should be protected in the sun with sunscreen for at least 5 months. A conventional sunscreen is suitable for this purpose, but it should have a relatively high sun protection factor (at least SPF 40).
You can shower and wash your hair again from the 1st postoperative day. For most patients, the feeling of being freshly showered after surgery is particularly pleasant and contributes significantly to feeling comfortable again.
You will be given a bandage the day after surgery to keep your neck and cheek area securely in place. This bandage must be worn for a few days to a duration of 2 weeks, especially at night, depending on the intensity of the surgery.
Possible risks of a facelift include infection, bleeding, scarring, nerve injury and wound healing problems. Overall, such problems are exceptionally rare and facelift is a very safe procedure.
Most sutures in a facelift are done in such a way that they do not need to be removed. Behind the ear, however, such a technique is not possible, so those sutures must be removed afterward. This is done approximately between the 10th and 14th postoperative day.
A facelift is an exceptionally effective facial rejuvenation procedure. The connective tissue in the facial area is extremely soft and loose, this causes swelling and bruising to occur easily, which takes about 14 days to subside. Nevertheless, even after 2 weeks, some residual swelling and bruising are still present, so that a complete reduction can only be expected after several weeks. Thus, the face will constantly show slight changes over the course of the first few months. The result will therefore become finer and better with time.
Swelling and possibly bruising will occur during a facelift. Therefore, it is recommended to take a break from work of about 1½-2 weeks. Intense physical exertion should also be avoided for at least 2 weeks.
