VASER LIPOSUCTION (LIPOSUCTION)
We all know them, the unpleasant and stubborn fat pads that do not want to disappear despite diets, dietary changes and lots of exercise. Disturbing cellulite is often added to this and ensures that those affected cannot really feel good in their skin.
Liposuction does not replace a diet. However, it is a sensible measure to restore an even and slimmer surface contour. Collagen synthesis is stimulated, which additionally leads to firmer skin after fat reduction. The texture of connective tissue, such as cellulite, is improved and strengthened. Liposuction can be performed on a wide variety of body regions, from the neck to the calf.
Who Is Liposuction Suitable For?
Liposuction reduces stubborn, unwanted fat deposits in patients who are only slightly overweight, or in people with normal weight but who suffer from excessive fat deposits in a certain area. Liposuction is also suitable for treating cellulite (the uneven appearance of the skin on the hips, thighs and buttocks) or sagging skin.
The treatment is not recommended in the presence of infections, wound healing disorders and improper skin elasticity. Liposuction is not recommended for the treatment of obesity because surgeons can only remove a limited amount of fat. Nor is it used to treat obesity or as a substitute for exercise and a balanced diet. Liposuction is also not suitable for certain areas of the body, such as fat deposits on the breasts, because of the increased risk of cancer.
Time Required
The length of stay in the clinic is usually 1 day. Usually, the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, and an overnight stay is not required. We recommend 1 week as the average length of stay in Turkey before patients are allowed to fly again.
Patients should follow the surgeon’s special travel instructions and take precautions against deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Before Liposuction
Prior to liposuction, patients meet with the attending surgeon for an extensive consultation. The doctor explains the exact course of treatment and all risks. In addition, patients are advised to refrain from smoking, reduce alcohol consumption and refrain from taking blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin, in the week prior to the procedure.
How Is the Treatment Carried Out?
Liposuction is performed with a special method using the tumescent technique with the SlimLipo® laser. In this procedure, a solution based on physiological saline solution, a local anesthetic (lidocaine) and adrenaline is first injected into the affected area of the body. This solution acts on the fat deposits for about 20 to 30 minutes. The fat can then be melted in with a laser cannula. Melting the fat by the radiated energy of the laser is a particularly tissue-friendly procedure, as only the fat cells are removed and the surrounding tissue, i.e. the collagen fibers, are not damaged. These collagen fibers are also stimulated by the laser treatment and thus solidify. Finally, the dissolved fatty tissue can be gently suctioned out with a fine cannula.
Duration of treatment and anesthesia: Vaser liposuction can be performed under general anesthesia. For small fat deposits, local anesthesia is often sufficient. Liposuction lasts between 1 and 2 hours. When treating larger areas, the duration of the procedure may be longer.
After Liposuction
Depending on the amount of body fat removed, patients may be discharged or stay overnight in the hospital. Patients should rest and keep wounds clean. Activities such as swimming or sunbathing should be avoided for the time being. We provide our patients with special compression garments that should be worn for the first few weeks after liposuction to keep the tissues in shape and supported. In the period immediately after the procedure, patients may experience moderately severe pain. The doctor will then prescribe an appropriate painkiller and, if necessary, an antibiotic. Due to the special technique of liposuction, the incisions are quite small, so no noticeable scarring is expected.
Possible Risks
Possible risks include numbness in the treated areas, a slight tingling sensation, and swelling and bruising. However, these symptoms will heal after 1 week. The final results of the treatment will be seen after about 4 to 6 weeks.
