LACHRYMAL SACKS
The removal of the bags under the eyes, which are perceived as disturbing, is a common procedure in eye surgery. The so-called bags under the eyes can be an enormous psychological burden for the patient, as they make the gaze and thus the entire facial expression look tired, depressed and older.
What we colloquially refer to as bags under the eyes is actually the deformation of the tissue and fat packs around the eyes, caused for example by the natural aging process or genetic predisposition. The visible swelling or sagging of the tissues around the lower part of the eyes can extend to the base of the cheekbone.
For Whom Is the Removal of Tear Sacs Suitable?
This procedure is suitable for anyone who suffers from the visual impairment of bags under the eyes and desires a fresher, rejuvenated look.
Time Required
Since the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, patients can leave the clinic the same day. We recommend a stay of at least 3 days in Turkey before patients travel home.
Before the Lacrimal Sac Surgery
Prior to surgery, a comprehensive consultation is held with the attending surgeon. Patients are informed about the treatment procedure and the possible risks. In addition, the eyes are examined in detail so that any complaints and previous interventions can be taken into account when planning the treatment.
How Is the Treatment Carried Out?
Tear sac surgery on the eye is a very minor procedure in which the tissue on the lower eyelid is tightened. During the surgery, which is performed on an outpatient basis, excess skin is removed and, depending on the extent of the lacrimal sac, some fatty tissue may also be removed.
Duration of treatment and anesthesia: local anesthesia is perfectly sufficient for this treatment. The treatment itself takes about 30 minutes.
After the Lacrimal Sac Surgery
Since the procedure is performed only under local anesthesia, patients feel well immediately. However, we still advise them to rest for at least 1 to 2 days. Since the removal of the bags under the eyes is a comparatively minor procedure, there is little discomfort and no pain. Patients are already able to return to work about 5 days after the operation. Swelling and minor bruising heal within 10 days and the patient is fully socially acceptable again. Sports and extreme physical exertion should be avoided for about 3 to 4 weeks.
Possible Risks
Possible risks include swelling, bruising, wound healing problems and infection. In very rare cases, there may be a lack of eyelid closure.
