A breast lift is a surgical procedure to lift sagging breasts and restore them to a firm and beautiful shape. This operation is often performed on women after pregnancy or on patients who have lost a lot of weight, which has caused sagging of the breasts. Who Is Breast Lift Suitable For?
A breast lift is a good and safe treatment method to lift and reshape sagging breasts (ptosis mammae or mastoptosis) and to tighten stretched breast skin. It is not recommended for overweight women and heavy smokers.
Time Required
The duration of stay in the clinic is 1 day with an overnight stay. Our surgeons recommend that patients stay in Turkey for about 1 week to rest before returning home.
Before The Breast Lift
After consultation with the surgeon, it is advisable to have a mammogram prior to surgery to obtain an indicator of breast health. If the patient is also having breast implants placed as part of the surgery, the size and texture of the desired implants should be discussed. The patient will likely be advised to discontinue certain medications, such as aspirin, and not to smoke prior to surgery.
How Is The Treatment Carried Out?
There are several methods to perform a breast lift. In a normal lift, an incision is made at the bottom of the breast, extending to the nipple. This surgical method can leave visible scars. Another option is to make an incision at the nipple and remove a round patch of skin. The skin is then closed again and tightened evenly. This type of incision leaves less visible scars. The incision can also be made at the nipple and extend across the breast, which also results in less scarring compared to a normal breast lift. During surgery, the nipple is repositioned and excess skin is removed. The breast tissue is then lifted and repositioned, creating a firmer shape. If desired, we offer the procedure in conjunction with the placement of breast implants.
Duration of treatment and anesthesia: Breast lift is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of treatment is about 2 to 3 hours.
After The Breast Lift
After the procedure, patients usually spend the first night in the hospital and may have surgical drains placed to allow fluid to drain from the surgical site. These are usually removed the next day. For the first week, patients wear a special bandage around the breasts. After that, the surgeon usually recommends a sports bra or a special bra corset for the first month after the procedure.
As possible discomfort immediately after the surgery, patients should expect swelling and bruising. The drainage tube may also restrict movement on the first day.
Possible Risks
Because sometimes the nipples are separated from the milk ducts during surgery, there is a possibility that women may not be able to breastfeed after the procedure. In many cases, however, this is not a problem. Other risks include bleeding, infection, scarring and nerve damage to the breasts.
