HAIR TRANSPLANTATION FOR HAIR LOSS
A hair transplant wants to compensate for hair loss naturally and permanently. A hair transplant is a surgical procedure in which hair is transplanted from one area of the body to another. Hair loss, also known as alopecia, can be caused by a number of factors including genetic predisposition, medications, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and hair trauma. Hair loss can occur in both men and women and is not limited to age. Hair transplantation is suitable for different areas of the body, such as the scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows or chest hair.
A hair transplant is a minimally invasive procedure in which individual hair follicles are removed from one part of the body (the donor area) and transplanted into a new area (the recipient area). It is also possible to graft body hair onto the scalp, but this will produce noticeably different results.
Hair transplantation is most commonly used on the scalp, especially in men with receding hairlines. Methods of modern hair transplantation achieve a natural result by mimicking the existing hair pattern. Hair is harvested using strip harvesting, also called follicular unit extraction (FUE). Strip harvesting involves the surgeon removing small groups of hair from a healthy harvest site. A second method is direct hair implant (DHI) technology. Here, hair follicles are taken individually from the donor area and implanted into the bald recipient area
Who Is Hair Transplantation Suitable For?
Hair transplantation is suitable as a permanent and natural-looking solution for partial baldness, especially in men, and generally for excessive hair loss (alopecia). However, hair transplantation can also restore eyelashes, chest hair, beard hair, or other parts of the body hair, and is also suitable for filling in areas that have become bald due to scars (even surgical scars, such as those after a facelift).
Hair transplantation is not recommended in cases of diffuse female pattern baldness, alopecia areata (patchy baldness) or when there is not enough hair at any donor site.

Time Required
The length of stay in the clinic is approximately 8 hours. As an average length of stay in Turkey, we recommend 3 days before you can start your journey home.
Before the Hair Transplantation
The patient will consult with the surgeon before the procedure to find a suitable harvesting site and discuss the procedure in detail.
How Is the Treatment Carried Out?
First, the scalp is cleansed and the removal site where the hair will be harvested is locally anesthetized. There are several techniques that can be used for the extraction of the donor hair. We prefer treatment with the two most current treatment methods:
- In the FUE method (follicular unit transplantation or strip harvesting), individual hairs or tufts of hair, also called follicular units or grafts, are extracted from a heavily overgrown area. This is usually the back of the head, especially in men. For the removal, the hairs of the corresponding area must be shaved off to about 1 to 2 millimeters. Then individual hairs (units) or a small group of hairs (follicular units) including the root are carefully removed. The grafts are stored in a nutrient solution and then inserted into the recipient area as quickly as possible until a natural hair density is achieved. The FUE method of hair transplantation is particularly gentle and low-risk.
- The second method, DHI (Direct Hair Implant) technology, is the less invasive treatment and is considered a breakthrough in hair transplant procedures. This method achieves a very natural result even in areas affected by severe hair loss. In DHI hair transplantation, hair follicles are first harvested from the donor area with high follicular density. Using a device called a Choi implanter, the follicles are inserted into the device one at a time and then implanted directly into the recipient area one at a time without delay. This allows the hair to be implanted more densely and there is almost no scarring. The transplant can be performed without shaving the head completely and achieves maximum hair growth and natural hair density
Treatment time: Hair transplantation is performed under local anesthesia. The procedure is relatively time-consuming and takes between 4 and 12 hours depending on the volume of the transplant.
After the Hair Transplantation
Once the transplant is complete, the area is covered with a surgical dressing that should be worn for at least 1 to 2 days. Patients usually return to their hotel after the transplant and should rest with their head slightly elevated. During the first few days after the hair transplant, patients may experience itching of the head, as well as mild pain in the treated areas. The doctor may also recommend a special shampoo to gently clean the head after the treatment.
During the first few weeks after treatment, some of the transplanted hairs may fall out, but this is not a cause for concern. Gradually, new hair will grow again from the transplanted follicles. At the recipient site, it can sometimes take 4 to 6 months for the hair to come through, and patients may have to wait up to 1 year to see the full effects of the transplant.
Possible Risks
Potential risks of hair transplantation include hair transplant failure (hair does not grow), obvious scarring (sometimes a line is visible when strip harvesting), infection, swelling, and scalp hypersensitivity.
